Randall Amplifiers is an American amp maker best known for its high-gain solid-state and hybrid heads, which became the backline of choice for thrash and heavy metal guitarists from the 1980s onward — most famously Pantera's Dimebag Darrell.
History
Randall Instruments was founded in 1970 by Don Randall, who had previously run Fender's sales and distribution arm for two decades under Leo Fender. Where many amp makers of the era stayed committed to tube circuits, Randall built its early reputation on solid-state designs prized for their reliability and consistency night after night on tour. That focus made Randall heads a natural fit for the emerging thrash and metal scenes of the 1980s and 90s, and the brand became indelibly linked with Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, who used heavily modified Randall heads throughout his career. After Dimebag's death in 2004, Randall released signature models built to replicate his personal amps, cementing the brand's identity within heavy metal. Randall has changed ownership more than once since its founding but has continued to focus on high-gain amplification for rock and metal players.
